I was up uncustomarily early this morning (for me on a Sunday!) to welcome the Mayor of Reading, Cllr Pete Beard to the beautiful Eldon Square Gardens.
Pete was supporting the Friends of Eldon Square Gardens, the group I helped get off the ground last year, to plant two new Mulberry trees and a Cherry Tree. This is part of the ongoing regeneration of the Gardens - one of our successful campaigns in the ward (and one of the ones closest to my heart).
Despite the freezing weather, a number of local residents turned out lend RBC's Dave Booth and local resident, Jane Setter, Chair of the Friends (pictured below in the snazzy hat and sunglasses) a hand.
Kirsten, Glenn and Gareth joined the enthusiastic bunch who helped dig the holes, followed by a much needed cup of tea.
More events are being planned by the Friends of Eldon Square Gardens for later in the year (for when it gets a bit warmer!). If you live locally and are interested in getting involved please do contact me.
