I went to last night's meeting of the Redlands and University NAG, which was well attended and very nicely presented, including leaflets, surveys and display boards.
Key issues raised by residents included parking, especially the over-parking of our streets and parking on the pavements. A difficult issue to resolve but something we have been working on in e.g. Alexandra Rd, Morgan Rd. I want to keep the pressure on the Police and Council to "keep it clean, keep it clear". The quality of our pavement and roads, and their state of repair, is a continuing concern and that was also raised.
The Police talked about some of the good work the PCSOs are doing (declaring a bias, PCSOs and Neighbourhood Wardens are my personal heroes, I have to tell you). They've been doing very good work ticketing those people cycling without lights: so dangerous in the busy urban environment that characterises our ward.
The University and RUSU also spoke at the meeting. I must say they have been doing great work together working on anti social behaviour from students. Often the "punishment" is to ask the students to do something restorative for their local community, like doing an area clean up or helping with a tea dance. Of course, the students concerned often end up really enjoying doing the latter, but I think that's OK.
Anyway, if you attended, very nice to see you and please contact me if you'd like to be involved.
