Well, the voters of Redlands made their views known! The full results are here.
It's an honour to have been chosen to represent this area, in which I have lived for the last 16 years.
Thank you to everyone who supported us, whether by voting, delivering leaflets, working in a polling station, or helping people make it to the polls!
Special thanks to Daisy, whose track record speaks for itself. Together we will work for you and for our community to make Redlands an even better place.
It's Election Day!
Polling stations open at 0700, close at 2200. You should already have received a polling card, but if not, you do not need one to vote: simply go to the polling station. If you need a lift please call 950 9213
Please vote for action on crime, graffiti, waste: let's make Redlands cleaner, safer and greener!
Thank you and see you at the polls!
Gareth and I attended the RUSU candidates debate on Tuesday. It was well attended, lively, and enjoyable: big thanks go to the organisers.
The discussion varied from crime (where we talked about Lib Dems plans to put more police resources on our streets), the environment (we think Reading should target zero municipal waste and zero net carbon emissions), to more national policies on student tuition fees and top ups (which we oppose).
There were candidates and parliamentary spokespeople from all the parties, except the Conservatives, who didn't show. It demonstrates how out of touch the Conservatives are in the area. My view is that unless you are prepared to meet with people and engage in debate, you have no right to represent them.
LibDem campaigner Kirsten Bayes has won the selection race to be the candidate at the May 3rd local elections. She has vowed to 'work for a clean, green and safe Redlands' if she is elected. Look for more details in upcoming editions of Focus, our newsletter delivered across the Ward.
Daisy, Kirsten and the team will be concentrating on the issues that we know matter with voters and all residents in Redlands. Graffiti, anti-social behaviour, rubbish collection and street cleanliness and of course getting more police on our streets will be at the top of the priority list. If you have any problems that you want Kirsten and Daisy to take up on your behalf, you can contact us on 0118 950 9213 or come along to the next Advice Surgery at St.Lukes Church on 22nd April at 10.30am
Taking a short break from campaigning, Reading Liberal Democrats held a "Curry Club" evening last night.
Discussions included the current campaign against Crime, Kirsten and Daisy expressing their dismay at the RBC recycling report/meeting (see the newsletter, last post), and a report back from the national conference last weekend.

This is a new weblog, created to help keep you informed of the work done by the Liberal Democrat team in Redlands.
We welcome your comments!
